Power, Corruption & Lies

Won’t you please let me go
These words lie inside they hurt me so
And I’m not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
I’m not the kind that needs to tell you
Just what you want me to

I saw you this morning
I thought that you might like to know
I received your message in full a few days ago
I understood every word that it said
And now that I’ve actually heard it
You’re going to regret

And I’m not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what you want me to
You’re not the kind that needs to tell me
About the birds and the bees

Do you find this happens all the time
Crucial point one day becomes a crime
And I’m not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
I’m not the kind that needs to tell you

I’ve lost you (x5)
I’ve lost you (x5)
I’ve lost you (x5)

The opening guitar riff of New Order’s Age of Consent quickly accompanied by Stephen Morris’ high paced drumming is something I think everyone should start their day with. You can really imagine yourself, hung-over and deprived of hydration, jumping in the shower howling out that first strained:

I’m not the one that needs to tell you

Just what I want to do.

I say imagine, but really it’s what I did this morning and it was marvellous. The frenzied and excited end of the song, with that message of “I’ve Lost You” is rather haunting, but I really enjoy the “Ooh ooh ooh” further on. After that, this really simple guitar strum plays, and then when joined with the synthesiser, brings the song almost to its climax rather than its conclusion.

UMM…YES!
